Exciting Adventures in Primary

Year 4 and Year 5 set off this week on their respective residential visits to Ba Vi and Cuc Phuong. With a mixture of trepidation and excitement the children were waved off by parents on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Year 4 and Year 5 set off this week on their respective residential visits to Ba Vi and Cuc Phuong. With a mixture of trepidation and excitement the children were waved off by parents on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Year 5 set off to Cuc Phuong for jungle adventures in the National Park. This was a 3 day, 2 night adventure with some fantastic activities set up for the children. The children were in two groups and rotated around a variety of activities including: visits to the endangered turtles and learning about the work that is being done to protect them, making food toys for the lemurs and langurs that have been rescued, a nocturnal visit to see pangolins, roasting marshmallows around a bonfire and not forgetting the night safari to see the fireflies lighting up the jungle. The children returned yesterday, tired but full of stories of the fun and experiences that had filled their last three days. They were incredible ambassadors for our school and our teachers were brimming with pride as they spoke of how the children had thrown themselves into the activities and had lots of fun all the while behaving brilliantly. Well done Year 5 - you have made us all proud.

Year 4 set off on Wednesday to Ba Vi for two days and one night; for some children, this trip was their first time away from home so some nervous goodbyes were to be expected. Over the two days the children took part in planting organic vegetables, catching fish, planting rice, picking corn and generally getting wet and muddy. Mr. Wild said “The soundtrack to the day was squeals of delight and excitement, especially when stepping in a muddy rice field”. The children came back loaded with tea, weaving and local produce they had picked accompanied with stories of their adventures. Once again, the children’s behaviour, enthusiasm and energy was amazing for the two days and they are now ready for a well-earned rest. Well done Y4!

We have a two week break beginning today so here are some ideas for activities that you can do with your child to help support their learning:

-        Read, read, read every day (in English and home languages)
-        Keep a holiday diary – write in English about things that are happening each day and bring it in to share after the holidays
-        Look on the class blog for activities that have been set over term 2
-        Do a Global Citizenship challenge
-        Build Lego creations
-        Log into Mathletics
