Dear Parents,
At BIS, we are always looking to provide students with opportunities to make links with others outside our BIS community. This helps to develop global perspectives and to understand a different culture.
FOBISIA – Federation of British International Schools in Asia
BIS is a member of FOBISIA which currently has 58 member schools throughout Asia. Staff and students of our schools enjoy a plethora of competitive, learning and networking events. Last week, I met with principals and senior leaders of FOBISIA schools for the purpose of looking at strategic ways forward for the organisation. The meeting was held at one of our FOBISIA schools, the English School of Mongolia.
On Wednesday, the team of students who represented our school at the recent Under 13s FOBISIA Games had a celebratory barbecue in the Primary playground. The team achieved incredible success, medal-wise winning 1st place in both the boys and girls football, 1st in the girls basketball and 2nd place in the swimming. In addition, many positives were also seen outside the competition grounds. Students talked about the new friends they had made from different countries, the experience of visiting the excellent sports facilities in Phuket and the benefits of competing on an international scale. FOBISIA promotes collaborative practice with an emphasis on improving leadership skills, creating friendships and having fun. I would like to congratulate Jess, Nhi, Quang Minh and The Thien for being worthy recipients of the coaches’ award and players’ player awards.
Helping our Community Partners
Cast your minds back a few weeks to the amazing production of Beauty and the Beast. A big thank you to all those who attended and helped us to raise an incredible 30 million VND for our community partner, Nguyen Dinh Chieu. I can now provide you with an update as the money raised has been used to purchase musical instruments which were introduced to our visitors today.
Our Year 2 students got the chance to meet children from Nguyen Dinh Chieu, the school for the visually impaired. To see children, play happily together with special scented play doh and Lego, in addition to taking part in special musical activities was a joy to see. Our community partner will continue to visit BIS over the next 2 weeks and the instruments will be donated to Nguyen Dinh Chieu for the children to continue to enjoy.
