Day 1:
It was a long day of travel, but we arrived Thursday night in good spirits and excited to be in Shanghai for the FOBISIA Secondary Maths Challenge. To open the event, BIS Shanghai teachers and students presented a culture and maths fair that included science experiments, a sprinting challenge with Olympic medalist Marlon Devonish, and of course, fun maths puzzles and games. Our students had a chance to meet and greet teams from other schools and countries, and were amazing ambassadors of BIS Hanoi - a great start to the weekend!
Day 2:
Competition began on Friday with a mix of events. Individual skills and knowledge were the focus of the multiple choice, long questions and online graphing enquiry, and it was wonderful to see our students approach the challenges with such grit and determination. Communication was showcased in the team events, with lots of practical activities including card tricks, 3D Sudoku, Tarsia puzzles and a team kahoot. The evening concluded with a BBQ dinner and then a visit to the Bund to see the beautiful city lights and buildings. More fun team challenges to come on Saturday!
Day 3:
Our last day of competition was full of activity. Tower of Hanoi and Tangram puzzles came to life on a large scale, cranes were constructed on a smaller scale, and trigonometry was experienced through the use of a clinometer out on the school grounds. KenKen and Cross Number rounded out the team activities, followed by the award ceremony for individual and team winners. What a great experience for BIS Hanoi teams, and thank you again to BIS Shanghai Puxi for organising such an incredible weekend.
