Dear Parents,

Our BIS Mission is represented through our Aide Memoire which serves as a constant reminder of the characteristics we value as a school: Caring, Respect, Integrity, Perseverance, Reflection and Enquiry. Students demonstrating these characteristics are rewarded in different ways, appropriate for their age: the award of house points, certificates and in class recognition are some examples. As a whole school, we show the importance termly, as one child per year group is selected to receive the prestigious Principal’s Award, presented in a special whole school assembly. The successful recipients are those setting good examples for others and showing these characteristics frequently in their school life.

In order to further our understanding of the BIS Mission statement, our whole school focus this year is to ensure we embed the understanding of the importance of global citizenship and internationalism. Through discussion with groups of children, staff and parents, our definition of what we mean by ‘global citizen’ has been agreed. Below, you will see that our definition has been presented as 5 different strands. Each of these strands will be introduced across the school in a scheduled launch and will start next term. Students will be encouraged to take part in challenges which make a difference to themselves and others in our community. Parents will be asked to support with these challenges and help contribute evidence to year group blogs.
