The Artists of The Week of 2017

Year 11 Art Students

For the last 7 weeks, Year 11 Art students have been working on preparatory work for their final exam. This Tuesday and Wednesday students sat their final 8 hour Art Exam. They were allowed to take in their preparatory work which helped support their final piece. Students worked in a range of media, techniques and scales including pencil, paint, stencils, charcoal, and many more. The students have worked extremely hard over the last term and should be incredibly proud of their effort and achievement.  This particular piece was created by Thi Minh Hang Nguyen and was based on the initial starting point of street sellers. Her intention was to highlight the differences between new and old Vietnam through use of colour, subject matter and a carefully selected composition. This work will be one of many pieces on show in our KS4 and KS5 Art Exhibition at the beginning of next term. Well done Year 11 on completing one of your first exams

YeoJin Choi - Year 10

Following their trip to the to the Old Quarter last month, Art students in Year 10 were asked to use their visual research to create a double page in their sketchbook, this also formed their second PCT (progress check test). Students had to ensure they created at least two responses in their double page, one of which had to combine at least two different Art media. YeoJin worked extremely well in the time given for her PCT, showing great confidence selecting and using watercolour paint, charcoal pencil and pencils to create two excellent observational studies. The final result is this well planned and executed double page.

Hae In Yun, Jessica Lee, Seung Yeon Won and Ju Eun Hong

Year 7 students were recently asked to respond to the surreal Artwork by Rene Magritte. After choosing their own piece of artwork students could either copy his work in any material they liked or create their own version for homework. We had some incredible responses with students using a range of media to complete their homework including photography, digital media, collage and paint. Here are four incredible examples showing the hard work, effort and creativity that Year 7 Art students are consistently putting into their homework.

Phuong Nguyen Hoang 8E3
This week Phuong has worked incredibly hard in lessons and at lunchtime to finish her final outcome for the natural form project. Using a combination of watercolour paint, pencil, pen and coloured pencil she has shown excellent accuracy in her observational studies of flowers and shells before combining them into this interesting composition. She has also completed this stunning homework in preparation for the new Year 8 project on Aboriginal Art. Well done Phuong.
